Judd in form for Goldenstates win

Perth drag racer, Robin Judd, is looking to win his second Goldenstates Top Doorslammer title at the Perth Motorplex this weekend – Friday and Saturday, November 18-19.

A win at Perth this weekend will also see Judd vying for the lead in the 2011-2012 ANDRA (Australian National Drag Racing Association) Pro Series Top Doorslammer championship.

Fresh from winning the Perth Motorplex season-opening event last month and reaching his third-straight Australian Nationals final at Sydney Dragway in September, Judd knows his Aeroflow/William Buck team must reach the final at the 40th Annual Goldenstates to have a chance at winning the 2011-2012 Australian Top Doorslammer championship.  

Judd was runner-up in the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 ANDRA Pro Series Top Doorslammer championship series after winning the 2009 and 2010 Nationals and 2009 Goldenstates titles and runner-up in the 2008 Goldenstates.

Last season (2010-2011), Judd finished fourth in the Pro Series Top Doorslammer championship series.

Judd aims to finish season with a win

Top Doorslammer drag racer, Robin Judd, is looking to finish the 2010-2011 (Australian National Drag Racing Association) ANDRA Pro Series the same way he started, with a win.  

Perth-based Judd won the season-opening Australian Nationals, for the second year in a row, at Sydney Dragway last September. This weekend, Judd is now looking to win the season-ending Winternationals at Willowbank raceway.

Judd, who has been runner-up at the past two (2009 and 2010) Winternationals, is keen to make his third successive Winters final and that the third time will be lucky for him.

At last year’s Winternationals, Judd was also vying for the Australian Top Doorslammer championship with arch-rival John Zappia, which came down to the last race of the series – the Winternationals final – and which saw Judd losing the championship by 16 points.

While Judd concedes he can not win the 2010-2011 Australian Top Doorslammer championship, a win at the Winternationals could see him again runner-up in the ANDRA Pro Series and go some way in avenging last year’s loss.

Judd looking for a Doorslammer Grand Slam

Top Doorslammer drag racer, Robin Judd, is looking to win the sports most elusive prize, the Grand Slam. 

No Top Doorslammer racer has ever won the Grand Slam, made up of drag racing’s prestigious big three marquee events – three-day events that stage all (Australian National Drag Racing Association) ANDRA Pro Series Group One and Sportsman categories – The Nationals, Nitro Champs and Winternationals in the same season. 

Perth-based Judd is the only Doorslammer racer who can win the Grand Slam after winning the first leg, the season-opening Australian Nationals last September at Sydney Dragway.

However, Judd needs to win the Nitro Champs, also at Sydney Dragway from Friday, April 29 to Sunday, May 1, to have a chance at winning the Grand Slam.    

It is the second time Judd has had a chance to win the Grand Slam after winning the 2009 Nationals. But then luck eluded Judd when he went out in the semi final at last year’s Nitro Champs and then lost in the final at the Winternationals at Willowbank near Brisbane.
